COURSE DECRIPTION
A studio production course that simultaneously explores digital based photography and digital manipulation of imagery. Relevant history, theory and aesthetics of related media are presented, along with discussions of the societal impact that digital imaging has introduced.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The main goal of this class is to understand the underlying properties of Digital Imaging (both static and time-based). We will study the origins and evolution of imaging tools, focusing on the nature of frequency sampling, RGB color decomposition, data manipulation and cameraless capturing apps. This is subversive and experimental approach to data presented as images, susceptible to manipulated and transformed with a wide variety of open source and commercial tools.
PROJECTS
The class will include, but not be limited to: ASCII Art, Vectors, 2 BIT, 8 BIT, Scanning, Animated gifs, Stereoscopic imagery, Lenticular Animation, Image Data, 3D looped video (Fyuse 3D), Glitch, Data Mosh (#1, #2), Fragmentation (David Hockney), Photogrammetry (PhotoCatch App), Lidar scanning (3D Scanner App), Mosaic Imaging, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
You must use your own external SSD Drive to store your projects. Even though we will use DropBox extensively, it is your responsibility to save and document the progress of each on of your projects.
Download and install Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver on your personal computers. There will be specific Open Source tools you will be asked to use online and on your phones. Some of these are paid tools, we will try to find alternative versions, but you may be asked to purchase a specific app to use on your mobile equipment.
You MUST be registered on Siso to check out equipment from the cage.
